Biography

Carla is a Partner and Head of our Commercial department and Technology Sector, specialising in Commercial Law, IT Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Agency and Franchising. Carla studied law at Manchester Metropolitan University and trained at Brabners Chaffe Street. Upon qualification, she joined the national law firm Hill Dickinson and worked in the Corporate Commercial department at their head office in Liverpool. Carla joined Myerson as an assistant solicitor in 2008.

Carla has a particular interest in the Tech Sector and has a wealth of experience in drafting and negotiating a variety of technology contracts, including software development agreements, app development agreements, platform development and supply agreements, SaaS agreements and software licensing, hosting and maintenance agreements. Carla has assisted developers in taking their apps to market, including their deployment on AWS and Google platforms as well as the App Store.

Carla acts for large software houses and has been involved in multi-million-pound software licencing, support and maintenance agreements and also works with start-ups who are looking to enter the marketplace with their software offerings. As part of her work in the Technology Sector, Carla has specialist experience with life sciences, healthcare technologies and solutions, regulated and financial technologies, and green technologies.

Carla’s strong Commercial/IT background means she is able to provide valuable assistance within Myerson’s Compliance Team, advising clients on data protection, GDPR, anti-bribery compliance and competition law.
Carla has experience in a wide range of commercial matters, including drafting and negotiating an array of commercial agreements from both a supplier and customer perspective, including agency agreements, distribution agreements, standard terms and conditions for the supply of services and goods on both a business to business and business to consumer basis. Carla acts for a variety of businesses, including SMEs, small start-ups and owner-managed companies.

Carla is a member of the Society for Computers and Law (SCL).

Expertise and Past Cases

Carla regularly provides training:

  • to clients within the Tech Sector on the legal issues their businesses may encounter; and
  • on GDPR and data protection.

Carla also provides advice and assistance on data protection, privacy, business continuity and disaster recovery.

Carla assists and advises both franchisees and franchisors on the terms of their agreements and has assisted in the establishment of franchise networks and pilot schemes.

Carla is a member of Society for Computers and Law (SCL).  SCL is an educational charity which provides advanced training in Technology law.

Carla was recognised by The Legal 500 as a recommend lawyer for IT law.

The firm is a member of the Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (ILPA). The ILPA is an association of 66 law firms who have an established Intellectual Property department.

Carla assisted the firm is gaining its Affiliate status and membership with the British Franchise Association.
