April 2023 Statutory pay rates and unfair dismissal compensation limits increase

As always, April means new increases to a range of statutory rates and limits. We have set out below the key changes taking effect in April 2023 that employers need to know about.

Unfair Dismissal Compensation & Redundancy Pay

The limits on the maximum compensation available for unfair dismissal claims, as well as the limits on statutory redundancy payment, are increasing from 6 April 2023 as follows:

• The cap on one week’s pay to calculate statutory redundancy payments and unfair dismissal basic awards will increase from £571 to £643. That means the highest available statutory redundancy payment and unfair dismissal basic award is now £19,290.

• The maximum unfair dismissal compensatory award will increase from £93,878 to £105,707.
These increases reflect the significant increase in the retail prices index of 12.6% from September 2021 to September 2022.
